What was your first job as a journalist?
Freelance lit journalism for the Indy on Sunday.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Why?
How is social media changing news?
O come on let's give 2009 it's questions back.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Richard Littlejohn
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Less and less but still important I suppose.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Well.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
A plunger and Paint.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter. Non-ironically too.
Who do you wish followed you?
Henry Miller (god I hate these questions).
Why did you become a journalist?
Ideas, writing, that kind of thing.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No, it was for tossers.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The Chekhov piece.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
The fashionable advice is 'learn to code' - 'have rich parents' gets to the heart of the matter.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Whenever I am not drunk. In fact forget that...when I am drunk.
