A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, I got my start in the professional world as a local government reporter at The Citizens' Voice in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

My passion for data journalism led me to my current job as data analyst and news programmer at The News Journal. I spend my days interviewing databases and building visualizations and apps for the web that cover such topics as politics, transportation, environmental issues, crime and health.

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first job was covering local government and myriad local issues for The Citizens' Voice in WIlkes-Barre, Pa.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being a journalist means being accountable to a citizenry and taking serious the duty to inform the public.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Excel, MySQL, MS Visual FoxPro, Access, PostgreSQL, ArcGIS, Python, JavaScript.
