Autoantibodies to IL-1Ra and PGRN in severe COVID-19 are associated with inflammation-induced hyperphosphorylated antigen isoforms
Abstract SARS-CoV-2 infection affects multiple immune mechanisms and leads to severe COVID-19 and death, in part related to infection-induced or pre-existing autoantibodies. Here, we describe severe COVID-19 to associate with autoantibodies against interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) and progranulin (PGRN), endogenous antagonists of IL-1 and TNF signaling, respectively.

Successful collection of peripheral blood stem cells upon VIDE chemomobilization in sarcoma patients
In patients with Ewing sarcoma and some distinct subgroups of soft tissue sarcoma (STS), a quantitatively sufficient autologous peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) collection for stem cell support might facilitate treatment continuation, dose-intensification and high-dose chemotherapy. Here we provide a detailed evaluation of PBSC collection upon vincristine, ifosfamide, doxorubicin, and etoposide (VIDE) chemomobilization.
Mesenchymal stromal cells contribute to quiescence of therapy resistant leukemic cells in acute myeloid leukemia
Persistence of leukemic cells after induction therapy has been shown to correlate with poor survival in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In this study we tested if human mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSC) have protective effects on leukemic cells undergoing chemotherapy. Persistent disease was used as marker to identify cases with therapy resistant leukemic cells in 95 AML patients. Immunophenotyping, cell cycle and apoptosis assays were assessed by flow-cytometry.
How to Find the Optimal Mobilisation Strategy - Impact, Challenges and Solutions
Autologous haematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT) is the standard treatment for a number of haematological malignancies. Achieving sufficient haematopoietic stem cell mobilisation is a prerequisite, but exactly how to define and achieve this goal remains a subject of debate. Key questions include which pharmacological agents to use, timing of treatments and mobilisation, and, in particular, target numbers of stem cells.
