Paul F. deLespinasse is Professor Emeritus of Political Science and Computer Science at Adrian College. He received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1966, and has been a National Merit Scholar, an NDEA Fellow, a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, and a Fellow in Law and Political Science at the Harvard Law School. His college textbook, "Thinking About Politics: American Government in Associational Perspective," was published in 1981 and his most recent book is "Beyond Capitalism: A Classless Soci…

Four years out of power gave Donald Trump time to nurture his grievances, plan retribution and surround himself with loyalists determined to remake the federal government. I wouldn't vote for Donald Trump even if he just ran for dogcatcher. Although I have never had a dog, I love dogs. And I would never buy a used car from him. But if Trump was going to serve two terms I suspect we might actually be better off if he had been re-elected in 2020.

Space-Based Solar Power Is the Wrong Climate Solution

The most obvious obstacle to replacing conventional with green energy is the local intermittency of solar energy—day and night, etc. One way to get around this problem would be to place solar panels in orbit around the earth where they always get sunlight, then beam electricity down to earth-based receiving stations. Space-based solar energy sounds appealing and is not technically impossible, but it is a terrible idea.
