It was interesting to note some of the comments from Louth goalkeeper Niall McDonnell’s post-game interview with GAA+ when he talked about learning from the Leinster semi-final loss to Dublin in Portlaoise. Dublin beat Louth that day 0-20 to 0-10, so his specific comments gave a real insight into where Gavin Devlin’s team’s focus was to ensure the turnaround we saw in Croke Park at the weekend.

Limerick house evolves through two centuries with different names and owners

OF the three houses that I have discussed across my column in recent weeks, the final one, Woodbine Cottage/Castleville is still largely extant. It is accessed by a long, linear, private, tree-lined avenue. The house is not recorded on the 6‑inch Ordnance Survey map of c.1839, nor does it appear in Griffith’s Valuation of c.1850, suggesting that it was constructed after that date. By the time the 1870 OS map was produced, it is identified as Woodbine Cottage.

Westmeath’s breaking ball nous and raw leadership proved too much for Dublin

Westmeath landed the Delaney Cup for the first time since 2004 with a gameplan that came from Mark McHugh and his coaching team, but which could only be executed by real leadership on the field. Last week this column was complimentary of Roscommon’s ability to get short kick outs away but this was largely down to a poor Galway kickout defensive set-up.
