1 Background Mental ill health is by far the principal source of the burden of disease for young people aged 10–24 years (Gore et al. 2011), with more than 50% impacted before the age of 25 (Copeland et al. 2011; Caspi et al. 2020; Gibb et al. 2010). Early intervention is crucial to prevent the progression of mental ill health and associated long-term negative outcomes, including premature mortality, social exclusion and reduced educational and vocational achievement (McGorry et al. 2023).
