Executive Briefing: How to Disrupt Ransomware and Phishing Attacks by Leveraging Email Security
Location: The Sunborn Yacht Hotel (Excel) London UK When: Thursday 8th December, 08:30AM-11AM GMT Enterprise email gateways will stop most simple phishing and ransomware attacks deployed by attackers, the emails with unconvincing and badly worded messages from 'IT support' imploring the recipient to click on a link. But the fact they still get sent tells us that some do get through the system.
Security Think Tank: To stop ransomware, preparation is the best medicine
Ransomware is the “gift” that keeps on giving – and not in a good way. Sophos’s report The state of ransomware 2022 makes for rather sobering reading: 66% of 5,600 survey respondents said their organisations had been hit with ransomware in 2021 – nearly double that of the previous year – with 46% of organisations that were hit by encrypting ransomware having to pay a ransom to get their data back. For as long as ransoms are paid, the appeal of the crime remains. This is a difficult cycle to break.
Reducing the Risk to Critical Infrastructure Before It’s Too Late
It’s been a year since the high-profile ransomware attacks on JBS Foods and Colonial Pipeline, causing enormous disruption to these organizations and the general public. Since then, the frightening reality is that the threat to critical infrastructure operators has increased rather than dissipated.
Jon Crawford has the background, experience to be sheriff
One person running for Napa County Sheriff is a proven leader with extensive local law enforcement experience that is tempered by integrity. That candidate is none other than Jon Crawford. I'll be voting for him on June 7 and I urge you to do the same. Jon is "Napa Valley" through and through: He was raised here, schooled here (Justin Siena), and employed here 23 years as a Napa County Sheriff's deputy, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and most recently undersheriff.
ISO/IEC 27002 is Being Updated: Are you Ready? Let's Consider the Future of GRC
In today’s constantly changing cyber landscape, it’s important for organizations - regardless of their size and sector – to evolve the way they manage the complexity of modern security threats and IT infrastructure. Although organizations have managed risk and compliance for some time, the way in which these activities are accomplished can be improved and integrated with other critical capabilities.
Security Think Tank: Embracing vulnerability management for the greater good
When it comes to vulnerability management, CISOs should define a responsible disclosure policy so that they can receive and manage identified vulnerabilities transparently, practically and collaboratively, says Paul Watts of the ISF By Paul Watts, Information Security Forum Published: 04 Oct 2021 Identifying and managing software vulnerabilities has always been a key component of good security hygiene and this has become increasingly important to CISOs as the world becomes more interconnected...
Overcoming 'Shadow IT' Need and Risk
The escalating use of shadow IT – information technology outside IT approval – creates significant risk to organizations and is one of the biggest challenges in digital forensics today. During investigations, incidents, litigation or regulatory and legal compliance, companies must be able to acquire, preserve, analyse, examine and present digital media in a forensically sound manner. According to McAfee, 80% of workers admit to using SaaS applications at work, in many cases without IT approval.
Above the Law: The Unofficial Guide to Star Cops
by Paul Watts When writer Chris Boucher finished working on Doctor Who and Blake's 7, he moved onto crime series. But the seed had been sown to combine both science fiction and detective drama and Star Cops was born. Broadcast on the BBC in 1987, Star Cops was ahead of its time and made an impact on those that stayed loyal to it. Despite only one series, it gained a dedicated audience and became a multi-award winning drama.
Role of the CISO During a Turbulent Year
What is keeping CISOs up at night? What isn’t these days! Hairpin turns in direction amid a global pandemic and evolving cyber-threats have caused disruption in business continuity, supply chains and infrastructure throughout 2020. This has given rise to diverse cybersecurity challenges and risks, whilst also provided unique opportunities for innovation and progress. Where do CISOs need to start in getting a grip on it all?
