The ‘Quiet Revival’ may be quiet, but is it a revival?
by You may have heard a fair bit about the so-called 'Quiet Revival', a surge of interest in Christianity and church-going, especially among young adults. The Bible Society has reported an increase in monthly church attendance from 4% to 16% for 18–24-year-olds between 2018 and 2024. The phenomenon appears to be more widespread among young men than young women.

What Does 2 Timothy 4:7 Mean?
When I was a boy we used to be sent outside by sadistic teachers to complete cross-country runs of about three miles, invariably in the coldest, windiest winter weather. Unhappy memories—but oh, the joy of finishing! A greater joy by far awaits the Christian athlete. We are called to endure, to persist all the way to the end, our eyes set upon the goal of Jesus Himself, “the founder and perfecter of our faith” (Heb. 12:2).
What Is Self-Discipline?
“I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified” (1 Cor. 9:27). How good are you at self-discipline? The chances are that you are reading this article on a mobile device, and mobile devices may discourage self-discipline more than anything else in our world. Experts tell us that incessant scrolling turns us into dopamine junkies, feeding habits that result in idleness and procrastination.
How should evangelical Protestants respond to the death of the Pope?
Both the secular and the religious media are giving extensive coverage to the news of the Pope’s passing, and the fact that this surprises no one is itself significant. As I write, I largely have in mind people who might still choose to describe themselves as ‘Protestants’ or ‘Evangelicals’, but the meaning of these labels is becoming increasingly contested.
Great God of Wonders: Exploring the doctrine of God - Theology - Affinity
Download a sneak peek of the upcoming Theological Study Conference papers here. At the time of writing, “uncertainty” is too weak a word to describe the state of the world around us. In Washington, D.C., a Presidential Inauguration has taken place, promising revolutionary change. The announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is inherently fragile.
Care for the vulnerable is a great hallmark of Christian witness
The hands of the clock tick forward, not backward. Time only moves in one direction. By the time you finish this sentence, you’ll already be about five seconds older than when you started it, not five seconds younger. This present life is a one-way ticket in the direction of old age. “The measure of a civilisation is how it treats its weakest members” is a quote that has been attributed to Mahatma Gandhi, but it has been repeated, in one form or another, by many others.
The Greatest Is Love
Our love for God must be a love that grows. Because without true love, there is no true knowledge of God. As J.I. Packer wrote, there is all the difference in the world between knowing about God and knowing God. The presence or absence of love makes the difference. An atheist professor of theology might know far more about God than many Christians do, but because he doesn’t love God, he doesn’t know God at all.
Who Is the True Israel of God?
When we read of God’s promises of restoration that He gave Israel through the Old Testament prophets, we must do so through the lens of the person and work of Christ. All of the judgment prophesied about the nation prepares us for the judgment that fell on Christ—the true Israel—for our sin. In His resurrection, Jesus secures the restoration that was promised so long before. When the Apostles appeal to Joel 2:28–32 in Acts 2:16–21 and Amos 9:11–12 in Acts 15:16–17, this is what they have in view.
