Abstract Solar-driven atmospheric water extraction (SAWE) is a sustainable technology for decentralized freshwater supply. However, most SAWE systems produce water intermittently due to the cyclic nature, with adoption hindered by complex design requirements or periodic manual operations. Herein, a fully passive SAWE system that can continuously produce freshwater under sunlight is presented.

BACKGROUND The emergence of multiple antibiotic-resistant bacteria in clinical, agricultural and environmental settings is arguably the foremost issue facing human health in the 21st century. The dissemination and evolution of novel antibiotic-resistant bacteria have been described as the next global pandemic after COVID-19, potentially leading to ~10 million human deaths per annum by 2050 (de Kraker et al., 2016).
