1 Introduction Global challenges such as climate change, low agricultural productivity, droughts, and deteriorating ecosystem services are closely linked to soil properties especially soil organic carbon (Lal et al. 2007). Soils in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are naturally low in soil organic carbon (SOC) and nutrients, and they are often further degraded by unsustainable land management practices.
