Appreciate you sharing your experience and yup unfortunately negative RE experiences can slap hard. I went from decades of rehabs and LTR to STRs and it has been humbling for sure. If you post the area in GA perhaps someone will weigh in.
Opinion | Bad Trouble | Common Dreams
Tonight I find myself in Yakima. It is 90°F, and I can’t sleep. Fires burn across the valley, making the air brown and smell like a campfire. The only sounds are homeless youth setting up their tents as I walk down the Ave trying to think. No scholarly journal asked me to write about “morality” as they did Joan Didion who published her sublime essay that has haunted me for more than 30 years and speaks to me tonight along with works by Timothy Snyder, David Graeber, and James Baldwin.
Letter: 1%ers vs senior lunch plans
In the 15 June 2025 paper, two articles stand out (Golden Toilet Theft - Pg A18, and Loss of Senior Lunch Plans, LTE - A15). The first discussed the "tragic" theft of a $6.5M golden toilet by the same artist who created the duct-taped banana, which sold for $6.2M in 2024. The second bemoaned the loss of funding in the BBB for senior meals, costing an average of $5.
Letter: Paralympics 2024
My family was disappointed as to the lack of any significant reporting on the AZ Daily Star about the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Thankfully it was broadcast on TV! Our family was enthralled by the variety and adaptation of sporting events to allow disabled athletes to compete… and compete they did... marvelously! It was amazing to watch them competing in soccer, swimming, archery, rugby, weightlifting, fencing, cycling, and many more.
Letter: Post 14 Sep 2024 Comics
It has been nearly two weeks Since the AZ Daily Star decided to change the comics. I miss nearly all of the previous comics both in the main paper and the online comics extra section. I don't know what instigated the change but I have read the various letters to the editor that have been submitted since 15 September, and I wholeheartedly agree.
Letter: Thank You AZ Daily Star
RE: 22 Mar 2024 articles "Leaders must be bridge builders, peacemakers" by Ms Magdalena Verdugo and "Were we really 'better off' under Trump’s presidency?" from the St Louis Post-Dispatch. Wanted to thank the writers and the Arizona Daily Star for printing these well thought out and informative articles, which not only affect us here in our great nation, but has impacts across the entire globe.
Letter: LD-17 Representation
Re: the July 21 article "L D 1 7 needs representation that prioritizes voters." As a retired military officer, registered Independent, and a resident of Marana AZ, I have been disheartened by the AZ Independent Redistricting Commission’s creation of the LD-17 district and subsequent resultant cast of elected officials. As Mr. Abraham clearly stated, they do not work to solve problems, focusing instead on dog whistle issues that pander to their base.
Letter: School Safety`
Re: the March 5 article "Safety, not looks, is top priority for school fence." I am a retired military member, father of two young men, and two young grandchildren. Mr. Rodarte is so on point in highlighting the need for school safety to be prioritized over neighborhood aesthetics.
States need environmental agendas based on social justice
While environmental justice champions at the federal level must play defense, Washington state should be on offense. THE U.S. Senate has approved President Donald Trump’s nomination of Scott Pruitt to run the EPA, a man who has repeatedly tried to undermine efforts to protect our nation from climate change. It is clear that Washington state can no longer rely on federal action to safeguard our air, land and water.
Federal Court Reinstates Texas Ban on Harboring Immigrants
Migrants at Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s temporary shelter in McAllen, Texas, in 2014. Reuters – file The three-judge panel of the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in New Orleans said the landlords, David Cruz and Valentin Reyes, failed to prove that they faced a credible threat of prosecution under the law, which makes it a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison to “harbor” immigrants with the intention of protecting them from immigration authorities.
Governor: Washington Won't Arrest Over Immigration Status
The governor of Washington signed an executive order Thursday reaffirming policies that bar state police and corrections officers from making arrests purely on immigration status in a rebuke of the Trump administration. “Washington has always been and will always remain a place that welcomes and embraces people of all faiths, all nationalities and all orientations,” Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee said.
Boehner Gives Obamacare Repeal Long Odds
Former House Speaker John Boehner and his wife Debbie arrive for the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., Jan. 20, 2017. Saul Loeb / AP, Pool Boehner also said Obamacare was made more likely to survive in some form due to the sheer difficulty of getting lawmakers to rally behind an alternative version. “In the 25 years I served in the United States Congress, Republicans never, ever, one time, agreed on what a healthcare proposal should look like.
