Lang on League: Looking up to the Panthers
I could think of no better role model for my daughters than Panthers coach Ivan Cleary and the current crop of Penrith players. The way Ivan and the players handled the loss to the Newcastle Knights in Sunday’s Preliminary Final was nothing short of inspiring. I’ll start with the players first. Let’s look at Nathan Cleary and Dylan Edwards.
Lang on League: Next generation on show
With the Panthers first grade side preparing to win a spot in the 2026 NRL Grand Final on Sunday, both the Penrith Jersey Flegg (Under 21) and NSW Cup teams will be playing in their Grand Finals on Saturday, September 26 at CommBank Stadium. So much for the dynasty being over. If anything, the future at the foot of the Mountains has never looked brighter. You build a dynasty from the ground up and that’s how you sustain it; by always having good juniors coming up through the system.
Lang on League: Did one tackle save Blaize Talagi’s Penrith career?
They say there are moments in life which can make or break you. Not an hour, a day or a week but a moment, a second. For Blaize Talagi, his moment came with just three minutes and six seconds left on the clock against the Roosters on Sunday. That’s when Talagi chose to sprint out of the line and put pressure on Chooks five-eighth Hugo Savala who was about to throw a pass.
Lang on League: My Merv Cartwright Medal predictions
With the regular season now over and the Panthers finishing as Minor Premiers after 27 rounds, it’s time for the remaining eight teams to fight it out to determine who will ultimately win the 2026 NRL Premiership. Panthers will hold its 2026 Merv Cartwright Medal on Tuesday, October 6, but I thought I’d get in early with who I think will win the major categories this year. Merv Cartwright Medal: Nathan Cleary – There really is no other player you can give this accolade to.
Lang on League: What would life look like without Nathan?
With five of the biggest Panthers names still to be officially re-signed, I thought I’d take a look at what the team may look like in 2028 if several of those stars don’t stay. Now I can see a Cleary still playing halfback in two years’ time but for the sake of this exercise, what if his first name isn’t Nathan? I tried to be as realistic as possible when looking at who is likely to re-sign and here are my reasons why.
Lang on League: The huge call Ivan Cleary must make
With only two rounds of the regular NRL season to complete, Penrith needs to fix two things before the Finals Series begins on Friday, September 11 if they’re to be a genuine chance of winning their fifth premiership in six years. The top four has all but been decided with the Warriors (38 pts), Panthers (38 pts), Roosters (38 pts) and Dolphins (36 pts) all looking safe. The last piece of the puzzle is what position the teams will finish in.
Total body irradiation versus chemotherapy before stem cell transplantation in children aged two to four with acute lymphoblastic leukemia—an EBMT pediatric diseases working party study
|
To the editor Total body irradiation (TBI)-based conditioning is the standard preparative regimen before allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT) in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) older than 4 years, whereas chemotherapy (CTx)-based approaches are generally preferred in children younger than 2 years because of concerns regarding long-term toxicity [1]. For children aged 2 to 4 years, however, the optimal conditioning strategy remains undefined.

Lang on League: The Jett effect
With so much media focus on the future of the best player in the world Nathan Cleary, it’s safe to say no one thought that his younger brother Jett would steal the spotlight from him last Wednesday afternoon. That is when Code Sports broke the story that Jett Cleary had requested a release from the final year of his contract with the Warriors to join Penrith from 2027.
Lang on League: Let’s prove naysayers wrong
The question was asked and answered by the rugby league media, could Penrith win the title without their inspirational co-captain Isaah Yeo? The answer which came back was a resounding ‘no’. And that’s fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion and so am I. On Monday it was revealed that Yeo would not need immediate surgery after suffering a pectoral injury against the Warriors last Friday.
Lang on League: Age shall not weary them
It’s official, rugby league is no longer just a young man’s game anymore. In 2026 there are over 80 players aged 30 and over playing first grade football in the National Rugby League. The Panthers alone have five players aged over 30 who are still playing some of the best football of their career. Scott Sorensen is 33, co-captain Isaah Yeo is 31 and so is Moses Leota, while Dylan Edwards and Luke Garner are both 30. Isaah Yeo. Photo: NRL Photos.

Lang on League: And then there were 11…
With 11 players still off contract at the end of the 2027 season I thought I’d look at each player and give my educated opinion as to who I think will re-sign with the Panthers. I think it’s also time I stopped sitting on the fence and weighed in on the debate regarding whether Nathan ‘Clez’ Cleary will stay the Prince of Penrith or depart for greener pastures. Nathan Cleary I’ve gone back-and-forth over the last few months on whether ‘Clez’ would re-sign.

Lang on League: NRL must fix messy transfer system

Lang on League: Rising stars come from good stock
The exciting thing about some of the wonderfully talented juniors running around in the Penrith Panthers lower grades is that three of them are sons of former first grade players. Two of them have fathers who played for Penrith, while the third, well, he’s the son of a former Parramatta Eels legend and he may be the most promising of the lot. The players are Judah Galuvao, son of Panthers premiership winner Joe Galuvao.
Lang on League: Cleary will be NRL’s first $2 million man
The NRL salary cap is expected to rise to anywhere between $18-20 million in 2028 under the new TV rights deal but you can take it to the bank that Nathan Cleary will be the first and only $2 million per season player in the competition that year. That’s if he decides to stay in the NRL of course.

1 Introduction The Buprestidae Leach, 1815 are a large cosmopolitan family of phytophagous beetles represented in Australia by 80 genera and 1326 species (ABRS, 2026), which constitute 5%–6% of the known beetle fauna in Australia (Yeates et al. 2003). Commonly known as ‘jewel beetles’, they are notable for the bright, often iridescent colouration displayed by many species and can be regarded as the butterflies of the beetle world.
Lang on League: Why pushing panic button isn’t such a bad thing
After back-to-back losses is it time to hit the panic button at Penrith? I say ‘yes’ and it could be the best thing to happen to the Panthers when that alarm bell starts ringing. Why? Because it will facilitate change, otherwise you’re just burying your head in the sand and hoping things will get better because, well hey, it’s only two bad games right?
Lang on League: The NRL should scrap Golden Point
Grant Atkins in action. Photo: NRL Images. While the game of rugby league isn’t struggling with record TV ratings and a multi-billion-dollar broadcast deal about to be signed, I thought of a couple of rule changes and a concept which could make this great game even greater. I must stress that most of what I’m about to suggest is not original but they’re still ideas worth considering. One of the rules which I feel needs to be changed is the golden-point rule.
Lang on League: My wild plan to bring back the Rams
If the NRL are serious about continuing to grow the game of rugby league across Australia and New Zealand, then by 2032 the competition needs to expand to include a team from Adelaide and a second side from New Zealand. I know it will take the number of teams to an uneven 21 but we’ve lived with ‘byes’ for many years and I don’t think it should be used as a deal breaker when it comes to expansion. I still can’t cop being called a national competition when there is no team in Adelaide.

Lang on League: Records are meant to be broken
With a well-deserved bye this week and a record-breaking 68-0 club win against the Wests Tigers last Sunday, I thought it would be a good time to have a look at the Panthers’ five record-breaking 50 points-plus victories over the last 60 seasons. Yes, that’s right Penrith have five 50-point winning margin matches to their credit. Not only that but each game was played at the Panthers home ground of Penrith Stadium, except for last Sunday’s game at CommBank.

Lang on League: Why Panthers should land Jett
I think it’s time to bring Jett Cleary back to play for the Panthers in 2028. I know that comment will create a lot of controversy amongst Penrith supporters but hear me out.
