The holy kiss and the hard work of loving one another
In Bill Watterson's great comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, Calvin, 6, is horrified when informed that he kissed a girl before bed last night. After a moment he makes an exception to the rules of his G.R.O.S.S. club (Get Rid Of Slimy girlS). "Smooching is optional if it's your mom" he says. I'll get back to kissing in a minute, but my last column in this space listed many of the "One Anothers" in the New Testament scriptures.
The Bible is clear about how to treat strangers
In the New Testament of the Bible, there are 59 statements, commands even, about how we should treat one another. These are often just called the "One Anothers." Notice that these cannot be accomplished without us being known, being in relationship, being present and committed to one another. In these contexts, I believe the speakers were referring to how members of their own tribe treat one another, specifically early Christians mostly.
Why (and how) to boost violent crime clearance rates
In 2024, an estimated 75,000 people were shot by criminal assailants, and nearly 15,000 of those victims died. The majority of these shootings did not result in an arrest or conviction. This failure leaves victims and survivors without justice, allows shooters to remain at large, and undermines public confidence in the criminal justice system.
Nondestructive X-ray tomography of brain tissue ultrastructure - Nature Methods
Abstract Maps of biological tissues at subcellular detail are key for understanding how organs function. X-ray nanotomography is a promising alternative to volume electron microscopy: it has the potential to nondestructively image millimeter-sized samples at ultrastructural resolution within a few days. A fundamental barrier is that the intense X-rays required for imaging also deform and disintegrate the tissue samples.
The origins of critical deformations in cylindrical silicon based Li-ion batteries
The origins of critical deformations in cylindrical silicon based Li-ion batteries† A manifold of degradation mechanisms causes premature capacity fade of Li-ion batteries. To understand their origin, we need a detailed diagnosis of battery (mal-)function over time.

Track: LoneLady - (There Is) No Logic
Today, Manchester’s LoneLady returns with new single “(There Is) No Logic”, a punchy electro and R&B tinged track, released via Warp Records. “(There Is) No Logic” fuses humanity and hardware, with unruly chopped-up vocal samples layered over twisting machine-funk rhythms. The song was written, produced and performed by LoneLady whose real name is Julie Campbell. Speaking on the track, LoneLady says, “it just really encapsulates so many cool electro sounds and even some r’n’b vocal stylings.

Strontium speciation in archaeological otoliths
Fish otoliths (“ear stones”) are major environmental indicators used in ecology and fisheries sci- ences. Otoliths consist of a biomineral material containing an organically-templated mineral calcium carbonate, normally aragonite, in which strontium is incorporated at minor to trace levels depending on water chemistry and individual physiology. Sr content and fluctuations inform on the life histories of ancient specimens and provide data for palaeoenvironmental reconstructions.

Slow and steady: How Bill Frisell and Ry Cooder made a lifelong impact on my music
By the time I was 19 years old, my fate was sealed. A musician's life was knocking, and I was eager to answer. But I had just started college, and with my small-town Wisconsin upbringing, I was only answering to the idea of a musician's life, something I wasn’t fully certain was even possible. Where I came from, there wasn’t a lot of precedent for professional artistry, so I couldn’t fully picture what it might look like, how I would live or if I could even hack it.
