Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
I was a radio reporter at the United Nations (which, admittedly, was quite an unusual first job).
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes.
How is social media changing news?
It is doing an end run around legacy media's refusal to cover certain stories.
Who do you wish followed you?
Why would I wish for someone to follow me?
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes, I was a writer and editor.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I did a pair of four-part stories for Benzinga called "The Crisis at Disney" and "The Crisis in Housing."
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Find a better paying job.
When's the best time to pitch you?
It isn't a question of time, it is a question of whether the pitch is clear and cogent.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Walking my dog.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
There are multiple publications that I need to read because of my work, but I cannot name any of them as a favorite.
