Old Lyme— The beach sewer projects here are finally moving forward after years of of deliberation. The Old Colony Beach Club Association, the Old Lyme Shores Beach Association and Miami Beach Association will see construction begin on their sewer systems over the next few months after the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection stepped in with a consent order that forced the projects to take place after town residents rejected the work at a referendum.

Norwich — A Danielson-based coffee shop has signed on to be a tenant at Crossings at 345 — Mattern Construction's renovation of the former YMCA building into offices, apartments and commercial space. Gwilym and Brittany Clarke, the owners of Two Dogs Coffee Shop, said Monday they hope to open within the renovated building by the fall. Two Dogs has been open in Danielson for about two years, Brittany Clarke said Monday.

Norwich — Roughly five hours into another marathon work day, Lee Walter Jr., the Sea Unicorns general manager, is mowing the Dodd Stadium outfield grass on a warm Thursday afternoon. Walter operates the riding mower like a skilled NASCAR driver, efficiently making turns to save time while staying on course. Once the task is complete, Walter parks the mower and moves on to another item on his seemingly endless list of things to do on game day.

East Lyme Antonio R. Hird, 38, of New Haven, was charged Sunday with driving an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of markers, driving without minimum insurance, driving with a suspended license, improper rear marker lamps, interfering with a police officer/ resisting arrest and second-degree failure to appear in court. Robert J. Minch, 62, of Manchester, was charged Sunday with driving unreasonably fast, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane.

John F. Droney Jr., who happily clashed with political opponents of either party as a quotable Democratic state chairman under Gov. William O’Neill and a strategist for Joseph I. Lieberman in two very different U.S. Senate campaigns, died Sunday. He was 79. His family announced his death Monday, saying he was stricken at his home in West Hartford.

New York — It was a rough week for WNBA All-Stars heading into the game this weekend. Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese both were injured Sunday. Bueckers had a rough collision with Nneka Ogwumike in the fourth quarter of Dallas' game against Los Angeles. The second-year star guard won't play Monday night against New York, but cleared concussion protocol the team said. Reese's knee buckled as she jump-stopped at the basket in a win over Chicago. She fell to the ground.
