How is social media changing news?

Attention spans are getting shorter - everything has to be snappier in order to get a bite.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Via email - I don't mind in-depth pitches, as long as they connect news item to a broader context. No phone calls or texts, please.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Morning! I currently start work at 8 am PT, so between 6 - 9 am is ideal.

What's your favorite drink?

Black coffee - hot in the morning, iced any other time, regardless of the season.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Grist! I love the solutions journalism and in-depth reporting.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

It's all doom and gloom! Even though decarbonization is daunting, progress is still being made as new tech emerges and evolves.
