Over the last two decades, a new organic synthetic approach on metallic surfaces under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions has been explored, known as on-surface synthesis (OSS). (1−3) OSS has demonstrated its potential to synthesize novel chemical compounds hardly available by traditional synthetic approaches, including atomically precise graphene nanoribbons (4−7) and polymers, (8,9) presenting nontrivial electronic structures.
