What is already known about this subject Sepsis alters physiology, reducing antibiotic exposure. Ceftriaxone is commonly used for empirical treatment in community-acquired sepsis. In critically ill patients, ceftriaxone clearance and volume of distribution increase compared with healthy individuals What this study adds Ceftriaxone 2 g q24h is adequate for MIC ≤1 mg L−1. Higher MICs or augmented renal clearance may require more frequent dosing.
