1 Introduction Cirrhosis is a prevalent disorder often presenting with gastrointestinal bleeding that requires surgical or endoscopic interventions. Patient blood management in cirrhosis is supported by robust evidence favoring restrictive red cell transfusion, aiming for a target hemoglobin level of 7–9 g/dL [1, 2]. Recommendations from AASLD [3], ISTH [4], AGA [5] and EASL [6] advise against the prophylactic correction of abnormal prothrombin time (PT) or platelet counts in cirrhosis.
