Biochemistry is pleased to announce an upcoming “Future of Biochemistry” Special Issue, highlighting exceptional emerging leaders who are advancing the frontiers of biochemical science.

This Special Issue focuses on the physics of biopolymers and polymer use in biotechnology, as inspired by the APS DPOLY 2026 Short Course, Polymers in Biotechnology. Submit your manuscript by October 31, 2026. Through the examination of molecular‑scale interactions, self‑assembly behavior, polymer-cell interfaces and how these give rise to functional properties, researchers can make targeted advances in therapeutic delivery, tissue regeneration, and the design of biointeractive materials.

Advances in biomaterials have been slowed by the complexity of modern material design spaces and the limitations of traditional trial-and-error experimentation. As materials become more multifunctional and biologically integrated, researchers need new approaches capable of uncovering structure-function relationships that are too intricate for empirical methods alone.
