To the Editor The authors of the PREPARE II trial1 reported no significant effect of a fluid bolus before tracheal intubation on the incidence of cardiovascular collapse shortly after this procedure. We have several concerns about this study. First, a prior meta-analysis2 showed that immediate effects of a fluid bolus of 500 mL are limited to a median increase of 7 mm Hg in mean arterial pressure.
