2.1.2. Definitions According to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of endocrine tumors of 2014, PHEO is defined as an intra-adrenal paraganglioma (PPG), whereas the term extra-axial PPG is applied for PPGs with an extra-adrenal location [9]. However, the WHO’s conceptualization of PHEO and PPG has evolved in parallel with changing concepts of the development and function of normal paraganglia and with concomitant changes in terminology [23].
