The dissemination potential of Microsporidia MB in Anopheles arabiensis mosquitoes is modulated by temperature - Scientific Reports
Abstract Microsporidia MB, a vertically transmitted endosymbiont of Anopheles mosquitoes, shows strong potential as a malaria control agent due to its ability to inhibit Plasmodium development within the mosquito host. To support its deployment in malaria transmission reduction strategies, it is critical to understand how environmental factors, particularly temperature, influence its infection dynamics.
Temperature modulates the dissemination potential of Microsporidia MB, a malaria-blocking endosymbiont of Anopheles mosquitoes
Abstract The endosymbiont Microsporidia MB is a promising malaria control strategy that inhibits the development of Plasmodium naturally in Anopheles mosquitoes. To be successful, it would be necessary to significantly increase the prevalence of Microsporidia MB in populations of malaria mosquitoes to decrease the malaria transmission potential of the mosquito population.
Omitting age-dependent mosquito mortality in malaria models underestimates the effectiveness of insecticide-treated nets
Step 4: . We can now use the previous steps to calculate the expected number of infectious bites a mosquito will take in its lifetime: (20) Case (i): which, as expected, is the same as Eq (18) as it does not depend on age. Looking back at the vectorial capacity (Eqs (1) and (2)), we can see that this is represented there by and respectively. This is because the assumed EIP distribution in each case is different (fixed and exponentially distributed), whereas we have assumed an Erlang distribution.
