I recently heard of the passing of Colin Powell. I have to say this: I hated the Bush administration, and the entire neocon crowd, with a passion, and do to this day. I believe they made the world a much worse place, and laid the groundwork for many of the problems of the last two decades. In a just world they would have been locked away for war crimes. And yet, for some reason, I have a soft spot for Colin Powell. He seemed to have some redeeming qualities. I'm kinda sad that he is gone.

Doing the dirty on those we decide are "other" is one of the oldest evolutionary contributions to human survival. Stripped of all cultural context, we are programmed to ensure the survival of our children first, even those not yet born, even at the expense of others' children.

You are so right, my wife had 62 chemo treatments in last 4 years Sometimes I wonder which is worse, side effects of chemo or the cancer. Chemo is meant mainly to retard cancer growth, not cure it. So wife and I have taken in 2 cruises in last 3 months to experience some happy times. Sanitary protocols on the ships were exemplary, and we felt safer on ship than any land based restaurant or store.
