1 INTRODUCTION Control or eradication of invasive mammals is a critical conservation strategy to conserve biodiversity within vulnerable island ecosystems (Jones et al., 2016; Spatz et al., 2022). However, practitioners and ecologists increasingly recognise that removing only a subset of invasive mammal species can have unexpected and perverse outcomes by freeing remaining invasive mammals from competitive or predatory pressures (Doherty et al., 2015).
