Abstract Long-term suspended sediment concentration data are essential for understanding the response of rivers in a changing world. Here, we trained and evaluated a model that uses surface reflectance from multiple Landsat satellites (TM, ETM+, and OLI) to estimate suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in rivers over multiple decades on a global scale.

Water temperature influences many aspects of estuary ecosystems, but with ongoing climate change, estuaries may become warmer. However, most estuaries around the world do not have surface water temperature data. Long-term estuarine surface water data are needed to study the relative sensitivity of different estuarine ecosystems to increasing temperatures under climate change, particularly in remote regions or places lacking historical data.
