Abstract Autoimmune diseases are characterized by immune disorders that lead to abnormal activation of autoreactive immune cells, which in turn lead to tissue destruction and organ dysfunction. Compared with adults, autoimmune diseases in children are more severe, with increased disease activity and organ damage occurring earlier, and with higher mortality.
