Perspectives from the “Others”: Educational Review and the Underexplored Facets of Modern Transformation of Education in China, 1907-1938
ABSTRACT The transition from traditional to modern educational practices in China marks a significant area of interest in educational history. This article focuses on the Educational Review, an English-language periodical launched and circulated by Christian missionaries in early twentieth-century China. Utilising statistical, classificatory and textual analyses, this study thoroughly examines the Educational Review’s content and its impact on educational changes in China.

Cascaded multiple Fabry–Perot interferometers fabricated in no-core fiber with a waveguide for high-temperature sensing
Abstract An optical fiber high-temperature sensor is proposed and demonstrated by use of cascaded multiple Fabry–Perot interferometers in no-core fiber with a waveguide fabricated by femtosecond laser pulse inscription. The device can sustain the high temperature up to 1100°C, and the temperature sensitivity obtained is 8.9 pm/°C within the temperature range 100°C–400°C, and 16.36 pm/°C within the temperature range 400°C–1100°C, respectively.
Fiber Bragg grating with a waveguide fabricated in no-core fiber and multimode fiber
Abstract A new, to the best of our knowledge, method of fabricating a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in no-core fiber (NCF) and multimode fiber (MMF) is proposed and demonstrated, achieved by writing an in-fiber waveguide before the grating inscription. This approach makes it possible to fabricate the FBG in NCF and can improve the quality of the existing FBG in MMF.
