Abstract Zwitterionic polysaccharides have unique structures and can elicit T cell–dependent immune responses. To unravel their molecular mode of action and develop potential alternatives for carrier proteins in carbohydrate-based vaccines, we here describe a total synthesis of zwitterionic PS A2 oligosaccharides from Bacteroides fragilis. The pentasaccharide and decasaccharide bearing one or two repeating units were efficiently synthesized via convergent glycosylation strategy.

Acinetobacter baumannii can cause a wide range of infections including bacterial septicemia, pneumonia, meningitis, soft tissue and urinary tract infections. A. baumannii has emerged as a highly antibiotic-resistant pathogen. A. baumannii vaccines are urgently needed. Herein, we summarize the advances of carbohydrate-based vaccines against A. baumannii. Synthetic strategies and stereoselective glycosylation methods are highlighted.

2-Nitroglycals are important synthons for biological active 2-aminoglycosides, glycoconjugates and natural products synthesis. Herein, we summarized the recent advances of 2-nitroglycals including its synthetic methods and its applications.
