Abstract The absence of traffic signals at unsignalized intersections often results in operational conflicts that reduce traffic efficiency. The advent of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) offers new opportunities for managing such intersections. However, because human-driven vehicles (HVs) still dominate traffic flow, the coexistence of CAVs and HVs poses significant challenges for mixed traffic control.

Capacity modeling for mixed traffic with connected automated vehicles on minor roads at priority intersections

ABSTRACT As connectivity technology advances, connected automated vehicles (CAVs), connected vehicles (CVs), and regular vehicles (RVs) form mixed traffic traffic at priority intersections. This paper presents an analytical capacity model to evaluate the impacts of such mixed flow on minor roads. We define two platoon types based on the leading vehicle: CAV-led and CV/RV-led platoons.
