Rachel Keith is a reporter and host for WHQR Public Media in Wilmington, North Carolina. She’s worked at WHQR for nine years, and her main focus is education reporting. Prior to a career in journalism, she was a public educator for seven years. She has Master’s degrees from both the University of North Carolina Wilmington (Public Administration) and N.C. The lawsuit began three years ago, after a majority of trustees voted to kick Funderburk off the college board, for reasons we’ll get into today. Last month, it settled.

Appearing on Infowars in 2022, the far-right conspiracy theory site created by Alex Jones, West said that everybody had something of value, “especially Hitler.” Later in the ceremony, fellow student Sarah Rudeseal grabbed a microphone from the podium to say that Hosek had omitted the end of the quote. She was cut off before she could finish speaking.

At least eight educators spoke to the board, a majority of them were from Williston Middle School. They spoke to both funding and facility concerns. Infrastructure concerns at Williston Clancy Gray, an eighth-grade English teacher at Williston Middle School, came to say that she enjoys being an educator at the school, but that its infrastructure is crumbling. She held up a poster that had six pictures showing the damage.
