New York City’s summer of sports continues as the final Grand Slam of the tennis season, the U.S. Open, takes over the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens. The world’s greatest players take to the hard courts in the tournament from Aug. 30 to Sept. 13, with festivities kicking off on Sunday, Aug. 23, for Fan Week. Last year’s champions Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka will both return to defend their titles.

Pro tip: always check the prohibited items list before packing for a trip. Beci Mahnken, CEO of travel agency MEI-Travel & Mouse Fan Travel , was in for a surprise after boarding the new Disney Destiny cruise ship last fall. Sailing out of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Mahnken opened her luggage to find a note in place of her hair dryer. “For your information, one item of yours could not make it onboard for safety & security reasons,” read the note, from the Guest Services Team.
