Increased global temperatures at the end of the Pleistocene transformed most of the ecosystems of South America, including the Atacama Desert (Nolan et al. 2018). As the world warmed during the last Glacial–Interglacial Transition, a major pluvial event known as the Central Andean Pluvial Events (CAPE) impacted the Atacama Desert during the last Glacial–Interglacial Transition.
