Abstract Rainfall impacts are often governed not by single-day extremes but by the persistence, accumulation, and peak intensity of rainfall within continuous wet periods. To address this, an event-based framework is applied to analyze rain-spells across six rainfall thresholds (2.5,5, 10,25,50 and 100 mm) using three indicators: duration, magnitude, and peak rainfall.

A deep learning approach for vertical soil moisture profile estimation using hydrometeorological data

Abstract The study develops a hybrid deep learning (DL) model that integrates one-dimensional convolutional neural network (Conv1D) with Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network, referred to as Conv1D-LSTM, to estimate vertical soil moisture (SM) profiles at six depths under bare and cropland conditions. The model uses hydroclimatic precursors closely associated with SM dynamics and is evaluated across diverse agroclimatic zones in India.
