What was your first job as a journalist?
I wrote features and a general/political column for a chain of six newspapers in western Wayne County, near Detroit, in the late 1970s.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Margaret Pynchon, newspaper publisher from Lou Grant. Also, Brenda Starr.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
A journalist is a truth-teller, a muck-raker,, a story-teller, a poet; as necessary to civilized societies as air and water is to life.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter.
Who do you wish followed you?
Everybody. But Rachel Maddow would be right up there, along with Elizabeth Warren, Chris Hayes, and Jon Stewart. And fawns. I love fawns.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
