A well-meaning but anodyne look at food insecurity. For the fourth time this week, Leo’s mother has packed him a baloney sandwich for lunch. “For now, it’s all we can afford,” she tells him. The ridicule he faces at school because of it—especially from big-mouthed bullies like Pete—leaves an even worse taste in his mouth. Softness is Our Superpower: Writer Rowan Mangan on How to Dismantle the Patriarchy With Our Radical Hearts
I’ve been living in my heart this week, watching as some mighty structures crumbled and fell all around us. They looked so strong, didn’t they? Strong as the Capitol building. Strong as the Supreme Court. But they were flimsy all along. Living in my heart has meant taking myself off to soft places where I can curl up around my body’s softest parts. My belly. My reproductive organs. My heart. This feels like safety to my body, even if it looks like passivity and powerlessness.

Sen. Raphael G. Warnock Remembers How the Police Killing of Amadou Diallo Sparked His Activism
In the early 1990s New York City was hot with racial tension, still bubbling over from a spate of racially motivated attacks and killings during the 1980s. Opinion | Raphael Warnock: I Can Still Hear My Father’s Voice
I can still hear my father’s voice. “Wake up, son. Get dressed. Get ready. Put your shoes on. There’s something for you to do.” My dad almost never allowed me and my siblings to sleep late. It did not matter whether it was a weekday or a weekend, during the school year or summertime, the admonition was the same. One sleepyheaded morning, I pushed back: “It’s Saturday. Get ready for what? What do you want me to do?” He paused and then blurted out: “I don’t know yet. Just be ready!” That was my dad. Loving.

Congress should fund health care coverage for poor in states that won't expand Medicaid
In 2017, long before I ran for the Senate, I was arrested at the U.S. Capitol while protesting for expanded access to health care. And as a man of faith, I was fighting long before then to get Georgians the health care they deserve because I believe health care is a human right. Now, as Congress works on a historic economic package that will revitalize our nation’s care infrastructure and move our economy forward, I’m still fighting to expand health care access for our neighbors who need it most.
