Sliders With Bacon, Sesame Slaw & Beer Caramelized Onions | Former NY Giants Rashad Jennings
As a former NY Giants running back, Rashad Jennings knows how to score on the field. He's also a bit of a pro in the kitchen—he even won our Super Bowl Recipe Playoff cooking competition a while back! He says these sliders are his most famous recipe of all.
How Former NFL Player Rashad Jennings Connected With His Dad
Presidents’ Day weekend in my third semester at the University of Pittsburgh, I went home to Virginia to see my folks. I couldn’t wait to show them what I’d been awarded. Only four freshmen had ever started as a running back for Pitt, and I was one of them. “Look, I got a letterman’s jacket!” I said. I pulled it out of my duffel bag and held it up so Dad could see the golden P stitched on the chest. “Shad, that’s fantastic!” Mom said. Dad barely took his eyes off the TV. “So?” he said. My heart sank.

Giants to meet with D.J. Fluker
With almost no salary cap space left to spend - at least at the moment - the Giants are still trying to upgrade their offensive line. And their first step will be to meet with former first-round pick D.J. Fluker. The Giants are interested in the 6-5, 339-pound guard/tackle who was released by the Chargers on Tuesday, according to an NFL source, and they are bringing him in for a free agent visit. They are serious about signing him, another source said, assuming the price is right.
Orleans Darkwa agrees to one-year deal with Giants
RB Orleans Darkwa has agreed to a one-year deal with the Giants, reports Kimberly A. Martin of Newsday. The Giants didn't initially tender a contract to the 25-year-old Darkwa, who was a restricted free agent. He had been set to become an unrestricted free agent today at 4 p.m. There had been some discussions about Darkwa returning at a lesser price, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reported last week, but a source recently indicated he was planning to test the free agent market first.
Robbie Gould signs with 49ers
Giants free agent K Robbie Gould will sign a two-year deal with the 49ers, the team confirmed Thursday night. New York signed Gould last Oct. 20 after Josh Brown was suspended and ultimately released due to domestic abuse allegations. The 35-year-old connected on all 10 of his field goal tries and was successful on 20-of-23 extra point attempts in 10 regular season games with the Giants.
Marshall: Party boat does not happen if I'm with Giants
WR Brandon Marshall does not believe the Giants' young receivers would have gone to party in Miami following their Week 17 victory over the Redskins had he been a member of the team at the time. "You know what? No, it doesn't happen," Marshall said on NFL Network's 'Good Morning Football' Thursday morning. "Well, I can't say that. Everyone is different. But I would have been against that, and partly because of my pains, right? I've been in the league so long and I've never made the playoffs.
Giants agree to terms on four-year deal with TE/FB Rhett Ellison
The Giants will undoubtedly be looking for help at tight end this offseason and they may need reinforcements at defensive tackle, too. But they've decided to bring back a couple of their own players at those positions to see if they can get any help from within. Both tight end Matt LaCosse and defensive tackle Robert Thomas have re-signed with the Giants, according to NFL sources.
Giants reach agreement with Brandon Marshall on two-year deal
The Giants are about to make a much bigger splash into the free agent pool than anyone expected, landing one of the biggest receivers they've had in years. On the eve of the opening of the free-agent signing period, the Giants were closing in on an agreement to sign receiver Brandon Marshall, an 11-year veteran who was released last week by the Jets.
Brandon Marshall has Super Bowl on the mind
After 11 seasons in the NFL with not a single taste of the playoffs and a string of mediocre (or worse) quarterbacks throwing him passes, Brandon Marshall had enough. That's why he insisted his trip to free agency wasn't going to be driven by money. And he said he proved that by signing with the Giants when he had a chance to go elsewhere and make more. "They definitely didn't offer me the most money," Marshall said on a conference call with the media on Wednesday. "It was probably the least money.
Marshall to limit media exposure with Giants
It may be showtime for the Giants offense now that Brandon Marshall has signed on, but his appearances on Showtime may be over. Marshall, who had been one of the highest profile Jets the last two years and a weekly panelist on Showtime's "Inside the NFL," said he plans to cut back on his media appearances now that he's signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Giants. It was unclear if that was his choice or something the Giants asked him to do.
Giants announce increased season ticket prices for 2017
The Giants will undoubtedly be looking for help at tight end this offseason and they may need reinforcements at defensive tackle, too. But they've decided to bring back a couple of their own players at those positions to see if they can get any help from within. Both tight end Matt LaCosse and defensive tackle Robert Thomas have re-signed with the Giants, according to NFL sources.
Giants won't tender deal to RFA Darkwa
The Giants have always been intrigued by the potential of running back Orleans Darkwa -- just not enough to pay him $1.797 million. An NFL source confirmed that the Giants will not be tendering the 25-year-old restricted free agent, making him an unrestricted free agent as of 4 p.m. on Thursday. There have been some discussions about Darkwa returning at a lesser price, but a source indicated he will test the free agent market first.
Giants meet with top three offensive linemen at NFL Combine
INDIANAPOLIS - Ben McAdoo may have blamed Eli Manning for some of the Giants' offensive problems on Wednesday, but he knows his quarterback isn't the biggest problem. That honor belongs to the offensive line. And the Giants seem intent on trying to fix it. As part of their first steps towards reinforcing a line that kept Manning under constant pressure last season, the Giants have already met with three of the top offensive tackles in the draft.
Marshall to Giants could be big win for both sides
INDIANAPOLIS - In a perfect (and uncapped) world, Brandon Marshall would make perfect sense for the Giants. He's the big receiver they've needed for years, a potential mentor for the young and turbulent Odell Beckham, and with a personality that proved to be a good fit for New York. And while the Giants' salary cap situation could make it complicated, now that Marshall is an ex-Jet, a move to the other locker room at the Meadowlands makes too much sense for the Giants not to at least try.
Giants still looking to sign Pierre-Paul to long-term deal
INDIANAPOLIS -- Ben McAdoo was thrilled to learn that Jason Pierre-Paul would be back with the Giants and he was unconcerned with the nearly $17 million cost. And never mind that the cost is more than half of the Giants' available cap space. McAdoo believes that won't hinder the Giants as they go about their offseason business at all. "No," he said. "We evaluate the free agents.
Fixing the Giants' offensive line hinges on decision regarding Flowers
INDIANAPOLIS - Whatever the Giants plan to do to fix their offensive line hinges on what they plan to do with Ereck Flowers. The Giants need to decide if he's a left tackle or a right tackle, or maybe even a guard. And on Wednesday, Giants head coach Ben McAdoo wasn't ready to say. "I'm saying, right now it's March 1st," McAdoo said.
Giants begin to ponder life after Manning
INDIANAPOLIS - At some point the Giants will have to think about drafting the next Eli Manning. And this week, at the NFL Scouting Combine, they'll take the first steps towards deciding if this will be the year. It's a big and difficult decision the Giants face, as they ponder their post-Manning future - something that might not begin until after his contract runs out in 2020.
Giants have interest in Adrian Peterson
INDIANAPOLIS - The Giants will "take a look" at free-agent running back Adrian Peterson, according to Ben McAdoo, though it remains to be seen just how much of a look they'll actually take. McAdoo put the future Hall of Fame running back in the same category as all the available free agents, during his short press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday morning. He didn't dismiss the idea of the Giants pursuing the soon-to-be-32-year-old, nor did he say they would.
Five questions surrounding Giants heading into NFL combine
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Giants got a big jump on their offseason business when they slapped the "franchise tag" on Jason Pierre-Paul on Monday, but that's likely to only be the start. They have a lot more work to do as they try to load up for one more Eli Manning-led Super Bowl run. The NFL scouting combine gives them their first look at who they might draft with the 23rd overall pick, though there are many other things they can accomplish at what is essentially the NFL's annual convention this week.
Giants apply franchise tag to Pierre-Paul with hopes of long-term deal
The New York Giants want to keep their rejuvenated defense together, and they're willing to pay the price to do it. They proved that on Monday when they slapped the franchise tag on DE Jason Pierre-Paul. That move all but guarantees the 28-year-old defensive end will play at least one more season with the Giants, though both sides seem to be hoping they'll soon strike a long-term deal that will keep him with the Giants for much longer.
Pierre-Paul's franchise tag may be expensive, but worth the cost
The New York Giants' decision to use their franchise tag on Jason Pierre-Paul probably won't sit well with either him or his agent. Pierre-Paul didn't want it. And if he doesn't end up with a long-term contract, he surely won't be happy. The decision also tied up a dangerous amount of cap space into one position on the Giants' roster.
Pierre-Paul would have Giants' second-largest cap hit with franchise tag
If Jason Pierre-Paul doesn't sign a long-term contract before the start of the free-agent signing period on March 9, he will count for approximately $17 million against the New York Giants' salary cap. That would be more than 10 percent of the projected $168 million cap, and the second-highest number on the team.
Giants' fourth-round pick drops 10 spots due to "Walkie-Talkie-Gate"
In the end, Giants head coach Ben McAdoo's decision to use a walkie-talkie during a game cost $200,000 and 10 spots in the fourth-round of the draft. The final value of the Giants' punishment for "Walkie-Talkie-Gate" became official on Friday as the NFL announced the compensatory picks in the 2017 NFL draft. The Giants already knew their fourth-round pick was being moved closer to the bottom of the round as part of their penalty.
Giants re-sign Zak DeOssie to two-year deal
One of the steadiest and most overlooked players on the Giants for the last decade is coming back for more. Zak DeOssie, the Giants' long-time long snapper, has agreed to terms on a new two-year contract, according to an NFL source. The financial terms of the deal were not immediately available. DeOssie, who'll be 33 years old in May, has been the Giants' long-snapper since 2007 when -- as a linebacker -- he was a fourth-round pick out of Brown.
Giants Draft Stock Watch: Bolles, Howard move up, Ramczyk falls
SNY's weekly look at the top players on board for the Giants as they prepare to make the 23rd overall pick of the NFL draft on April 27, complete with who's rising and who's falling throughout the process and as the Jets' potential needs change: 1. OT Garett Bolles, Utah - The only consensus right now on the top offensive linemen in the draft is that there's probably not a Top 10-worthy pick. Otherwise there's no consensus on either which ones are the best and where the run might begin.
Giants Free Agent Watch: Whitworth, Clady among offensive line options
There is no doubt about what the Giants' biggest offseason need is. They need to figure out a way to fix their offensive line. With right tackle Marshall Newhouse heading to free agency (and not likely to return -- at least not as a starter) and left tackle Ereck Flowers having struggled so much the Giants are pondering their options with him, they could be in the market for two tackles. It seems a lock that they will try to go after at least one. But which one? That's the problem.
In the Spotlight: Tight end
Each week, SNY will put a current player, a position, or perhaps a draft or free agent target of the Giants in the spotlight as part of our regular offseason coverage. Last week we looked at DE Jason Pierre-Paul. This week we move on to a position of need for the Giants: It's been a long time since the Giants traded up a spot in the 2002 draft to take Jeremy Shockey, a player then-general manager Ernie Accorsi hailed as more of a "weapon" than just a tight end.
Giants face franchise-tag dilemma with Pierre-Paul
Two years ago the Giants hit Jason Pierre-Paul with the "franchise tag" with the hopes that it would only be a place-holder until he agreed to a long-term deal. It almost happened, too, with talks that continued well into the summer - right up until his infamous fireworks accident on the 4th of July.
Giants re-sign TE LaCosse, DT Thomas
The Giants will undoubtedly be looking for help at tight end this offseason and they may need reinforcements at defensive tackle, too. But they've decided to bring back a couple of their own players at those positions to see if they can get any help from within. Both tight end Matt LaCosse and defensive tackle Robert Thomas have re-signed with the Giants, according to NFL sources.
Giants Free Agent Watch: Who could replace Victor Cruz at wide receiver?
The Giants cleared some cap room when they released veteran receiver Victor Cruz on Monday, but they also created a hole -- and not just in fans' hearts. Even with diminished skills and production, Cruz was the Giants' third-best receiver last season and with him gone they need a replacement on the outside. They may give unreliable rookie Roger Lewis a shot to compete after his seven-catch, 97-yard, two-touchdown season.
Giants release Victor Cruz and Rashad Jennings
Victor Cruz's remarkable, storybook career with the Giants was officially closed on Monday when the team started its offseason business by releasing both him and running back Rashad Jennings. The moves were not unexpected, but the release of the 30-year-old Cruz was surely painful nonetheless, even inside the Giants organization where he had long been one of the most popular players.
Five offseason questions facing the Giants
The NFL offseason may be off to a slow start, but things are surely about to pick up with cuts and contract restructures on their way, and with the scouting combine just two weeks away. With that in mind, here is our weekly look at some of the biggest questions facing the Giants, what's new about them, where they stand on finding an answer, and if any of the issues have changed. 1. How are they going to fix their offensive line?
What the (Blank)? | By Rashad Jennings
Welcome to the latest edition of What the (Blank)? Just like on the first day of elementary school, we ask athletes to answer a few questions about themselves so you can get to know them better. Next up is New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings.
Rashad Jennings: I’m sorry for throwing you under the bus, Eli
Giants running back Rashad Jennings will be providing a weekly column in The Post this season. This week, he addresses the confusion at the end of the Cowboys game and the fallout aimed at Eli Manning, after Jennings said the quarterback told him not to score in the final minutes. As told to Steve Serby. First of all, let me say that I want to apologize from my heart for the negative light that I unintentionally cast my quarterback and friend Eli Manning in.
Rashad Jennings: ‘I truly believe we can make the playoffs’
Giants running back Rashad Jennings will be providing weekly columns in The Post. As told to Steve Serby. I truly believe we can make the playoffs. I’m not looking to be boastful, but we’re a sound team, we’re a complete team start to finish — the first guy to the 53rd, everybody can play. I haven’t followed what outsiders might be saying about us because I’m so focused in on the things I’m trying to get done, but if they have a skepticism about us I think they will be surprised.
