1 Introduction Enzymes have uncanny abilities to orchestrate chemical events inside their active sites [1-6]. Optimized proximity, environmental tuning of acidity/basicity, amplified electrostatics, and specific “solvation” of the transition state by strategically positioned amino acid residues are just examples of what enzymes can do and utilize in their catalysis, all inside the multifunctional active site formed through folding of their peptide chains.

Asymmetric total synthesis of humulane sesquiterpenoids alashanoids B, C, E, F and 2,9-humuladien-6-ol-8-one Naturally occurring sesquiterpenes having humulane framework are structurally intriguing and possess significant biological profiles. Asymmetric synthesis of alashanoids B-C, E-F and 2,9-humuladien-6-ol-8-one is achieved for the first time through a linear synthetic strategy.
