A public hearing focusing on a potential one-year moratorium on data centers in Polk County will be held Tuesday, Aug. 18, after supervisors debated the best ways in which to move ahead in dealing with the issue. At a meeting held at the Unity High School Performing Arts Center to accommodate a large crowd, the county board heard public comments about the resolution – with all of them in favor of a moratorium.

Polk ESC approves data center moratorium resolution; sends to county board

Full board to consider the measure July 21 The Polk County Environmental Services Committee approved a motion to OK resolution 29-26 and sent it on to the full county board to consider at its Tuesday, July 21 meeting. The resolution calls for a 12-month moratorium on any type of development of data centers, the main reason being the county’s desire to study impacts and to develop “consistent zoning and regulatory standards” for the industry.
