Europe's energy crisis is politically created
Europe's energy crisis was primarily created by political intervention in energy markets, basing decisions on ideology instead of the free market. Now EU head Ursula von der Leyden wants to double down on the failing policies that have created high prices and shortage of supply. Realist Czech Republic President Milos Zeman counters that the whole problem results from "green madness".
Great new ad on Biden student loan boondoggle
If we cannot elect whomever we choose, our Constitution, our freedom, and our country are kaput. It will be time to agree to live as surfs of the authoritarian government or mount a second American Revolutionary War. I don't find either of these options appealing, do you?
N.C. Attorney General is an extremist
By Paul ‘Skip’ Stam Christian Action League August 26, 2022 Just how extreme is Josh Stein? Josh Stein has been our Attorney General since 2017 and has been running since then for Governor in 2024. In 2011 Senator Stein voted against the “Woman’s Right to Know” law. It required a 24-hour waiting period and the informed consent of a woman. S.L. 2011-405.
Biden student loan cancellation to cost each taxpayer $2K
Analysis by the Penn Wharton Business School show that the illegal student loan forgiveness announced by Joe Biden will cost each taxpayer $2,000 and drive up inflation. It will cost the government $300 billion. These numbers were computed even without the additional component of additional forgiveness for Pell Grant recipients, that will drive them even higher.

Illegal aliens allowed on airlines w/o ID's; some w/o security check
With Roe v Wade (originated in 1973) overturned by the US Supreme Court, thereby allowing decisions on abortion legislation completely returned to the states: Where do you find your position on such a "Life and Death" issue for the American People? Yes, I approve of the US Supreme Court's decision to reinstate this "medical" issue back to the states' legislative responsibility to regulate. No, I believe that every woman should have complete access to abortion on demand.
Congress wants $50 billion give away to big corporations
Inarguably, the policies of the Democrats in congress and Joe Biden as the Executive is plunging the United States into a recession, if we are not already there; a recession that was completely avoidable. Will abrupt changes in policies occur in time? Yes, the Democrats have a plan yet to be revealed to save us. No, there will have to be a complete undoing of the damage done by these Democrats. I can't do simple math, so how am I to understand the concept of basic economics. Opinion?
Did You Know? Post-Roe, UNC-Chapel Hill Has Struggled to Stay Neutral
Publisher's Note: This post appears here courtesy of The James G. Martin Center. The author of this post is Jenna A. Robinson. One of the most important principles for preserving a spirit of inquiry, discovery, and discussion on university campuses is institutional neutrality. This means that, while individual faculty are free to say what they like, universities should not take positions as institutions (or as units within the institution) on divisive political matters.
Time for a Change
Time for a Change It's interesting that the one room school house produced generations of adults who built the country with new and time saving inventions, fought and won two world wars and was a shining example to the rest of the world with the strength of our economic, political and social institutions leading the way. But all that has changed , hasn't it? Now we have a public school system that is DEAD ON ARRIVAL.

Craven County vs. FREE SPEECH
by Raynor James raynor@cctaxpayers.com Historically, citizens have been able to sign up before the regular (once monthly) evening meetings of the Craven County Board of Commissioners and be called on to speak (in the order in which they signed up) at a very early point in the Board’s proceedings. The comments were to be “germane to Craven County” (fair enough), and the citizen had 4 minutes in which to speak (short, but not outrageously so).
Letter: Control of borders is very necessary
Raynor James, New Bern Goodness gracious. Barbara Harrison and I think so differently. In her letter to the editor of Jan. 13, Ms. Harrison inquired, “Where’s the CCTA outrage when you need them?” She was talking about the cost to build a wall on our southern border. Well, I can only speak for one CCTA member (me), but I will be delighted when our borders stop being porous. Immigration of good people at a rate at which we can assimilate them is a good thing.
Letter: ECU Marching Band
Raynor James, New Bern The commentary by Rob Schofield in Friday’s Sun Journal entitled “East Carolina officials fumble anthem controversy” missed a key point. Yes, each and every one of our citizens is entitled to free speech on his or her own behalf. However, when one is wearing a uniform and representing a group (team, band, school, whatever), one is seen as being a representative of that group.
Letter: Support of Dacey
Commissioner Scott Dacey's proposed resolution asking that the Interfaith Refugee Ministry decline to accept refugees for relocation in Craven County "from countries that have significant territory controlled by an organization designated by the State Department to be a Foreign Terrorist Organization, including but not limited to Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen" is a good step for our Board of Commissioners to take.
Letter: Partisan politics
May I offer a heartfelt contrarian opinion to your piece in Sunday's Sun Journal entitled "Partisan politics has no place at county level"?
Letter: School grades
"Performance grades spur praise, pride" declares an above-the-fold headline in the Sept. 3 Sun Journal. A sub-title continues with, "School officials point to growth."
