1 Introduction Apicotermitinae are well known for their high abundance in the Neotropics, reaching up to 50% of all termite records in certain South American assemblages (Carrijo et al. 2009; Dahlsjö et al. 2020; Castro et al. 2021). Most Neotropical soldierless termite species are subterranean and play a vital role in decomposing and recycling plant material. These termites consume a significant amount of humified lignocellulosic resources (Bourguignon et al. 2016).
