@asiddons Public health experts point to a 2010 meta-analysis of 50 publications, which found that doubling the alcohol tax would cut mortality by 35%, traffic deaths by 11%, & STDs by 6%. But raising alcohol taxes is likely to be unpopular & the Senate would go in the opposite direction.

More people die from alcohol-related deaths than opioid overdoses. But the Senate tax bill could lead to more drinking since it would cut taxes on beer, wine and liquor. Supporters tout the boost for small breweries but all producers would get some benefit. @asiddons has more.
