I consider myself a decent recordkeeper. Journalists who aren’t, won’t last long. But what is the point of recordkeeping? In journalism, it’s accuracy, truth, and sometimes, legal defense. But I personally have the same instinct for it beyond work; I’ve kept many journals, and my iPhone’s camera roll dates back to my senior year of high school (2014, if you must know). It is an odd, and often impractical, compulsion to chronicle the past.
