The manuscripts presented in this issue collectively advance our understanding of addiction not as a singular disorder, but as a multilayered phenomenon requiring equally integrated responses. Addiction rarely appears independently or is understood in isolation. It unfolds within social systems, clinical environments, cultural contexts, and neurobiological processes that shape both risk and recovery.

The treatment and recovery trajectories of people with alcohol and substance use disorders are influenced by a complex array of biopsychosocial factors. In this issue we explore these factors in greater detail, highlighting vulnerable groups who are impacted by these, and present updates on different treatment approaches, both biological and therapy. Alcohol-related brain damage (ARBD), can manifest cognitive, behavioral, and functional impairments in people who have long-term alcohol consumption.

In this issue of Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly, we focus on recovery in the community as well as recent biomedical components of alcohol and substance use disorders. The conceptualization of recovery as a process involves intentional and sustained engagement in a lifestyle that promotes the improvement of health and wellness. We open with an article by Apsley, Ren, Lancaster, et al. on the use of a daily diary in recovery community center visits and activities.
