Reassessing the Relationship Between Exhaled Nitric Oxide and Acute Bronchodilation in Asthma Patients
Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) is an established marker of type-2 airway inflammation valuable in asthma management [1]. However, non-inflammatory factors, such as changes in airway calibre, may also influence FeNO levels. Airway narrowing reduces FeNO levels, likely due to reduced epithelial surface area limiting the NO diffusion from the airway lining into the lumen [2].
Advancing Remission in Severe Asthma With Benralizumab: Latest Findings, Current Perspectives and Future Direction
Eosinophil-targeting therapies underpin the ability to achieve remission in many patients with severe eosinophilic asthma. Achieving remission within 12 months leads to long-term benralizumab benefits; some patients require longer treatment. Data from clinical trials/real-world evidence with benralizumab can inform remission definitions and guide future research. 1 Introduction Asthma affects over 300 million people worldwide, with approximately 5%–10% experiencing severe disease [1, 2].
Biologics alter the relationship between FeNO and sputum eosinophils in severe T2 high asthmatics
Phenotyping asthma according to the airway inflammatory profile has brought major advance in asthma management over the last 20 years and classifying asthma into eosinophilic and non eosinophilic asthma based on induced sputum analysis has gained popularity. However, performing induced sputum is intensive labor and limited to some expert centers.
How respiratory symptoms impact asthma-related quality of life in mild asthmatics
Many studies exploring the factors associated with asthma-specific quality of life (QOL) have shown that asthma control is the main predictor of asthma-related QOL. However, to the best of our knowledge, no study has ever explored the individual impact of the five main symptoms of asthma (wheezing, dyspnea, chest tightness, cough and airway secretion) reported directly by the patient on asthma-related QOL.

Comparison of the effect of chemically and biologically induced inflammation on the volatile metabolite production of lung epithelial cells by GC×GC-TOFMS
Comparison of the effect of chemically and biologically induced inflammation on the volatile metabolite production of lung epithelial cells by GC×GC-TOFMS Exhaled breath analysis has a high potential for early non-invasive diagnosis of lung inflammatory diseases, such as asthma.
It needs more than just eosinophils to cause emphysema in COPD
Florence Schleich, Renaud Louis European Respiratory Journal 2019 53: 1900332; DOI: 10.1183/13993003.00332-2019 Abstract It is of utmost importance to obtain smoking cessation in COPD patients exhibiting eosinophilic inflammation http://bit.ly/2VkkxQv Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are chronic inflammatory diseases of the airways.
Step-down of inhaled corticosteroids in non-eosinophilic asthma: a prospective trial in real life
While non-eosinophilic asthmatics are usually considered poorly responsive to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), studies assessing a step-down of ICS in this specific population are currently lacking. To assess the proportion of non-eosinophilic asthmatics in whom ICS may be withdrawn without any clinical degradation and to determine the predictive markers of a failure to stop treatment with ICS.
Personalised medicine: are we ready?
AbstractA new series entitled “Personalised medicine in respiratory diseases” begins with a focus on asthma http://ow.ly/VGGE30eYTmTThis issue of the European Respiratory Review (ERR) contains the first article of a new series entitled “Personalised medicine in respiratory diseases”. The specific topic of this first article is personalised medicine for asthma [1], as in another recent article published in the ERR [2]. Is it really worth focusing that much on this new concept?
