CORRESPONDENCE 04 February 2020 Some local authorities in China are resorting to ‘quick fixes’ to comply with strict regulations imposed by the 2014 revised Environmental Protection Law. Such tactics must be stopped: they mask pollution issues that could defeat long-term environmental goals.

The spatial patterns of biodiversity and their underlying mechanisms have been an active area of research for a long time. In this study, a total of 63 samples (20m × 30m) were systematically established along elevation gradients on Mount Tai and Mount Lao, China. We explored altitudinal patterns of plant diversity in the two mountain systems.
