1. Introduction Extensive epidemiological and medical research now shows that it is imperative to prevent falls in older people and across a broad range of gait-impaired populations. The World Health Organization (WHO) identified falling as the second highest cause of unintentional death, after road accidents and approximately 37.3 million falls requiring medical attention occur each year [1].
