Introduction The chestnut tree (Castanea sativa Mill.), a member of the Fagaceae (beech) family, is widely found in southern Europe and Asia. The chestnut fruit is of considerable economic value, mainly because of its nutritional qualities and health benefits. Chestnut production is concentrated in Mediterranean countries and the fruit is consumed either raw or cooked. It is mainly used as candied chestnut, chestnut purée, and, in recent years, gluten-free flour due to its low fat content.

Introduction The search for innovative materials has resulted in significant research with the aim of improving the properties and functionalities of materials in various industries. Applications include energy absorption, drug delivery, sound absorption, filtration, tissue engineering, and thermal insulation.
