This week marks Severe Weather Awareness Week, and as we get closer Spring, with the weather getting warmer and more humid, thunderstorms become more and more likely each month. At any given moment, there are nearly 2000 thunderstorms occurring on Earth, primarily in the Tropical Regions. These storms rely on 3 main ingredients to form: Warm/Hot surface air, abundant moisture, and colder/cooler air aloft. These are necessary to get what is called convection, or vertical motion of air.

(WPDE) — Over the past couple of weeks, you might have heard the buzz about a number of earthquakes being observed, and right here across the Carolinas! Indeed, a few very minor quakes were recorded, mainly just North and West of Charleston. Here are the reported earthquakes that occurred over the past 10 days just North and West of Charleston.{ } { }All of them were very minor, but some were indeed felt by residents. A few also were reported just west of Columbia, in and around Irmo.

It's that time of the year again that some look forward to, and many dread: Daylight Saving Time. So many people seem to hate the idea of switching those clocks.. back in Fall, forward in Spring.. and over and over again each year. Some have even urged Congress to do away with it completely, as they claim it's a major inconvenience, and perhaps even a hazard or danger to health, travel and life in general. So, from a scientific point of view, why do we have to deal with this in the first place?
