Roseville, MN—On June 2, 2026, the founder of Mastel's Health Foods, John Mastel, passed away of Alzheimer Dementia at the age of 89, according to his obituary. Born on April 14, 1937, Mastel spent his childhood in South Dakota and Montana before finishing his education in Spokane, WA. His early work experiences included a job with Minnesota State Highway Department in 1966, but two years into the job, Mastel was affected by a serious intestinal illness that left him hospitalized for 54 days.

An expansion totaling $567 million, the North Shores location will retain 312 jobs, add almost 340 new jobs, and expand production space by more than 200,000 square feet.
